MEF CONTINUES ITS G-EFFORT PROGRAM IN KOTA MARUDU BY WELCOMING ITS 4TH BATCH OF NEW STUDENTS FOR 2024
In the first week of May 2024, the Majora Education Foundation (MEF) kicked off its first G-EFFORT program of the year in Kota Marudu, hosted at Walai Bunsadan. The event welcomed 46 new Form 1 students from the district, marking the start of their participation in the G-Effort program. These students received a monthly cash sponsorship, along with school bags branded by the foundation, filled with essential stationery.
Starting in 2024, MEF introduced a new initiative to provide each sponsored G-EFFORT student with stationery kits and personal hygiene kits, aimed at supporting their well-being and easing their financial burdens.
The following day, MEF set up a help desk for 99 existing sponsored G-EFFORT students, distributing stationery kits that included exercise books, stationery, and geometry tools. Students also received personal hygiene kits, with additional support provided to female students for their specific needs.
While most students attended with their parents, some were accompanied by teachers. Many of the students residing in hostels come from remote villages around Kota Marudu, where poor road conditions and high transportation costs often prevent their parents from attending such events.
One of the heartfelt moments of the program was when a student, who had been separated from her mother for nearly a year due to living in a remote village, was finally able to embrace her after reuniting at the event. Families like theirs face significant challenges traveling to urban areas, hindered by poor road infrastructure and high transportation costs.
Our foundation recognizes these challenges and is committed to supporting rural communities through our dedicated programs. By prioritizing education and providing sustained assistance and guidance, we aim to nurture the academic success of these students.

MEF LAUNCHES GE PROGRAM AT NEWEST AREA IN RURAL MAGANDAI
We are pleased to announce that on the 22nd May 2024, MEF launched our G-Effort Program in Magandai, the Foundation’s newest area that is in rural Kota Marudu.Â
The program welcomed its first batch of students, 19 Form 1 students for the first time. Each sponsored student received financial aid along with a year’s supply of stationery and essential hygiene packs, which is our latest initiative under the program.
The students, who are from SK Magandai, are part of the Comprehensive Special Model Schools (K9) program, a government-based initiative aimed at addressing the issue of high dropout rates among students in remote and rural areas of Malaysia.
Magandai has only one primary school serving the entire village. The nearest secondary school is located in the township of Kota Marudu, which is 3 to 4 hours away by road, and its accessibility is highly dependent on weather conditions.
The K9 program was established to reduce dropout rates by allowing students to remain in the same school from Primary 1 to Form 3, eliminating the need to transfer after the children out of their village when they complete Primary 6.
Additionally, MEF supplied Form 1 textbooks to the teachers of SK Magandai to aid them in their work with the students. We look forward to seeing the impact of MEF’s efforts on Magandai's students, their families, and the teaching staff in the future!
The addition of these 19 new students from Magandai brings the total number of sponsored students to 164 in the district of Kota Marudu.Â
