Many residents of Sabah live in remote rural areas, with household incomes falling into the poor and hardcore poor categories. This significantly affects the educational opportunities for children. Numerous young Sabahans possess great potential but are unable to complete their education due to their parents' inability to afford schooling expenses. Another contributing factor is the mindset of parents, who prefer their children to assist them in farming rather than attending school.

THE G-EFFORT PROGRAM

The G-Effort program aims to alleviate the burden on parents in educating their children, at least until they complete Form 5. This is the primary objective of the program. In addition to financial assistance, MEF also organizes activities such as character-building camps and motivational talks, which help shape the students' character and build their self-identity. The long-term impact can be assessed through an improved quality of family life, with more open-minded thinking and enhanced job opportunities for the children, ultimately leading to a better future. The G-Effort program targets families in the B40, B1, and B2 income groups, with household incomes of RM3,000 and below.

ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS

Eligible applicants need to fill out an application form provided by MEF and provide supporting documents, such as copies of identification cards, copies of their child's Year 6 examination results, and a letter confirming their parents' income.Complete application forms along with the necessary supporting documents facilitate the screening process by the management. Successful applicants will be contacted by MEF for the subsequent process, which involves signing an acceptance letter containing the terms and conditions of the assistance. Once all documentation is completed, the financial aid will be disbursed through direct bank-in, directly credited to the students' bank accounts. If the sponsored students do not have a personal bank account, MEF will assist in opening one for them.

FINANCIAL
ASSISTANCE

The journey of the Education Incentive Program, G-Effort, began in 2020. G-Effort stands for "Galakan-Education First: For A Better Tomorrow." MEF initiated its first sponsorship for Form 1 students in the Kota Marudu area in 2020. Thus far, a total of 72 students have been sponsored under this program, comprising 35 Form 1 students from 2020 and 37 Form 1 students from 2021. The financial assistance, initially set at RM40 per month starting from September 2020, has been increased to RM50 per month from March 2023.In 2023, MEF expanded its sponsorship to the areas of Pitas, Matunggong, and Sapulut, targeting 50 students in each area, with a total target of 200 students (50 students in Kota Marudu) for this year.
